Hi. The municipality in most cases only reads the meter outside the complex. There are certain rebates you need to receive from the municipality with regards to water and sewerage. Sewerage is calculated on your water consumption. Some complexes have stated installing or have separate water meters. Once you have separate water meters per unit/section, you can then charge the owner of that specific unit/section water and sewerage related to their unit. As the municipal accounts are increasing annually, it is a recommendation that all complexes investigate this option. If you complex is old and a block of flats, it is sometimes difficult to put in separate meters as the water is distributed from gravity tanks in the roof. So, first do your homework and allocate all the pipes/plumbing entering each units before you make a decision to install separate water meters.

Hi Tony,
Unless you have individual water meteres, you will not be able to identify the exact usage per unit. However, you will be able to work out an average consumption per unit, by looking at the municipal account.
